I have a thing for Nutella. Always have. Probably always will.

It started for me back in my childhood years. Nutella on a piece of freshly toasted bread at breakfast. Can you think of a better way to start your morning? Fast forward to my college years when my late night snack of choice was Nutella on Stella D'oro's "S" cookies. (side note: if you haven't tried, you MUST!) The combination of the chocolate hazelnut spread and the soft crunch of the slightly almond flavored cookie was sheer bliss to me!

These days, I like to believe that my Nutella consumption has "matured" some.  I spend most of my weekends in the kitchen whipping up the latest Nutella recipe I can find, while enjoying with it the perfectly paired glass of wine. Ahhh, the wine!

Here is a menu featuring some of my favorite Nutella recipes, along with my suggested wine picks. Let's call it "The Perfect Day" menu! Nutella for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert? For me, it just doesn't get more perfect than that!

BREAKFAST - Sweet and Spicy Bacon Coated with Nutella

Pair with: Les Rocailles Brut de Savoie

Chocolate, chili powder, salt and crispy bacon? As heavenly as the combination sounds, it goes without saying that there are a lot of different flavors happening here. Hailing from the French Alps, this lightweight aromatic sparkler is the perfect match to cleanse your palate bite after bite. The subtle nutty, yeast and fresh brioche aromas are an added bonus. After all, who doesn't like a little bread with their bacon??

LUNCH - Calzone with Mascarpone and Nutella

Pair with: 2012 Charles Smith Velvet Devil Merlot

With a name like "Velvet" Devil, you know you are in for a treat! Merlot's ripe, rich fruit, soft tannic profile along with aromatics of vanilla and cocoa, make it a magical pairing for the soft creamy cheese and delicate hazelnut chocolate that ooze out of this pizza Italiana!!

DINNER - Chocolate Hazelnut Ravioli

Pair with: 2012 Tintonegro Limestone Block Malbec

This predominantly Malbec blend with splashes of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot pairs beautifully with the gentle crisp of the Nutella filled ravioli.  Malbec's generous black fruit and violets, sweet rounded tannins and gorgeous mocha aromas merge seamlessly with the subtle pop of the cocoa, hazelnut flavor.

DESSERT - Gianduja Mousse

Quinta Vale Dona Maria Reserva Porto Lot 11

Port and chocolate. One of those pairings that can forever change your life. The notes of sweet juicy raisin and fig, followed by hints of vanilla, caramel and hazelnut, make this easy drinking port a no-brainer accompaniment to the decadent silky mousse. Try it- you can thank me later!
