The 2024 Gaba do Xil O Barreiro comes from a mild year, with enough rain and lower yields because of problems with fungus. The grapes were healthy when they started picking them the third of September. It fermented and matured in stainless steel with lees for four months without going through malolactic acidity. It's pale and young, still a little reductive, faintly balsamic but with a good core and mid-palate with fantastic balance. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol, with a pH of 3.6 and 4.8 grams of acidity. 91,520 bottles produced. It was bottled between March and July 2025.

The 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino comes from a warm but not extreme growing season, helped by timely rain and a normal harvest window. It pours a deep ruby red hue and opens with black raspberries, violets, fresh earth, licorice, and rosemary. Medium to full-bodied, it feels more vertical and energetic than the 2020, with a bright spine of acidity, well-defined tannins, and a long, focused finish that stays light on its feet. The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino is an understated beauty, mixing dusty rose and lavender with shavings of blood orange and black cherries. It is surprisingly juicy yet elegant and refined, as ripe wild berry fruits slowly drench the palate in primary concentration. Structured and dramatically long, the 2021 finishes spicy and intense with nuances of citrus, clove and licorice. The complexity here is off the charts and the energy is incredible.

The 2022 Colline Teramane Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Le Murate is impossible to ignore. Its burst of wild blueberries and sweet sage is complicated by hints of chalk dust and cocoa. This is wonderfully fresh and vibrant in style, with pure wild berry fruits and violet pastille that resonate throughout. It tapers off long and is perfumed with a liquid floral concentration, leaving traces of lavender and blue flowers lingering. This lovely Montepulciano is refined entirely in stainless steel tanks. It's a fantastic value.

The 2019 Rosso de Veo is intense, with a burst of dried black cherries, autumnal spices and rubbed sage. This is a dark and brooding vintage for Veo, with depths of ripe red and blue fruit propelled by zesty acidity. Saline minerals saturate, and a primary concentration forms toward the close. It finishes dramatically long and tannic, yet they are round and soft contoured. Licorice and a tart cranberry concentration linger on and on. While labeled as Umbria Rosso, the Rosso de Veo could easily be a Montefalco Sagrantino, filling a happy place in the portfolio that adds a lot of value for lovers of Paolo Bea.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Janeen is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon coming from Sage Ridge and Tench vineyard with 12.5% Merlot coming from Sugarloaf Mountain vineyard. Deep garnet-purple colored, it bursts with bold notions of crème de cassis, plum preserves and chocolate-covered cherries, plus hints of Chinese five spice, dried mint and smoked meats. Medium to full-bodied, rich and velvety in the mouth, it has loads of spicy sparks and a spicy kick on the finish. 310 cases were made.

Another absolute legend from the 2021, the 2021 Proprietary Red is based on 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot brought up in plenty of new oak. It brings another level of density, purity, and regalness, with awesome blackcurrants, iron, roasted herbs, tobacco, and a Latour-like graphite character all defining the aromatics. Full-bodied, rich, and concentrated, it has a seamless mouthfeel, absolutely incredible tannin, ample mid-palate depth, and flawless overall balance. While it certainly offers pleasure today, it's going to take a solid 8-10 years of bottle age for this to hit maturity, and it will be a 40- to 50-year wine. Hats off to the team at Sloan.

The 2021 Sloan is every bit as impressive as it was last year. Rich, dense and explosive, the 2021 is a gorgeous, dynamic wine. Sumptuous dark red cherry, red plum, rose petal, new leather and cinnamon give this plush, opulent Cabernet Sauvignon tons of character. The 2021 was only bottled a few months ago, so it has room to grow. It is a seriously beautiful, rapturous wine.

This inviting, chocolaty wine is super-soft in mouthfeel at first, due to a full body and resolved tannins. But the tannins firm up on the finish to reveal a structure that can help it age well.
