2022 Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Rouge "Les Marnes"
95 James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com
A succulent, lively, precise and refined pinot noir with aromas of forest berries, cherries, stones, mild spices and wild herbs. Medium-bodied with finely grained tannins and bright acidity. So much tension. Racy berry character meets a mineral frame and a vivid, stony finish. Long and succulent, with lots of transparency and verve. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
92 Rebecca Gibb MW - Vinous Media
The 2022 Les Marnes is a succulent style of Pinot in a cool-climate context. It offers breadth despite remaining light in body. This has excellent texture and tannins that provide a savory impression. Imagine a fine, wet clay-like, slippery texture with fine, drawn-out acidity providing length.

2022 Ramey Westside Farms Pinot Noir
95 Erin Brooks - Robert Parker's the Wine Advocate
The 2022 Estate Pinot Noir Westside Farms is the inaugural release of Pinot Noir from the Ramey family's Westside Farms ranch. It comes from vines planted in clay-loam soils along the Russian River in 2001. The grapes were harvested on August 18 and 19, before the Labor Day heat wave, and only free-run juice was included. It was fermented in tank with 25% whole clusters and matured for 18 months in 45% new French François Frères barrels. It has a pale ruby color and open, inviting aromas of cranberry sauce, rhubarb, blood orange, allspice and Angostura bitters. The medium-bodied palate surprises with its highly concentrated, layered flavors and is lent complexity by emerging earthy nuances. It’s structured by lacy tannins and vibrant acidity and has a very long, layered finish. It will benefit from several years in the cellar. It will be released in September of 2025.

2021 Sloan Proprietary Red
100 Jeb Dunnuck - jebdunnuck.com
Another absolute legend from the 2021, the 2021 Proprietary Red is based on 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot brought up in plenty of new oak. It brings another level of density, purity, and regalness, with awesome blackcurrants, iron, roasted herbs, tobacco, and a Latour-like graphite character all defining the aromatics. Full-bodied, rich, and concentrated, it has a seamless mouthfeel, absolutely incredible tannin, ample mid-palate depth, and flawless overall balance. While it certainly offers pleasure today, it's going to take a solid 8-10 years of bottle age for this to hit maturity, and it will be a 40- to 50-year wine. Hats off to the team at Sloan.
98+ Antonio Galloni - Vinous
The 2021 Sloan is every bit as impressive as it was last year. Rich, dense and explosive, the 2021 is a gorgeous, dynamic wine. Sumptuous dark red cherry, red plum, rose petal, new leather and cinnamon give this plush, opulent Cabernet Sauvignon tons of character. The 2021 was only bottled a few months ago, so it has room to grow. It is a seriously beautiful, rapturous wine.

2020 Cathiard Vineyard Hora Red
94 Wine Enthusiast
This inviting, chocolaty wine is super-soft in mouthfeel at first, due to a full body and resolved tannins. But the tannins firm up on the finish to reveal a structure that can help it age well. Milk chocolate, blueberries and mint bring a lot of flavor. Blended from 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Malbec. Best from 2026.
Perfumed aromas of tile, blackberry, bark, earth and pine needles follow through to a medium body with very fine tannins and a lovely savory finish. The balance and drinkability is really right. 60% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot and 10% malbec. First release. Drink or hold
91 Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
Finely boned, gentle charcoal, grilled peppers, and spiced black fruits. The Malbec makes a clear impact, and this has depth and character. There is a clear desire to deliver a wine that reflects a European sensibility, and although the intensity of the 2020 vintage comes through, you can drink this now with a good carafe. Justine Labbé winemaker, Frederick Ammons consultant, 40% new oak. Harvest September 9 to October 3, 37hl/h yield.

2016 Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Brut Special Club Chouilly Grand Cru
94 Jeb Dunnuck - jebdunnuck.com
The bright straw-hued 2016 Champagne Grand Cru Special Club Chouilly Brut was aged for 70 months on the lees, it did go through malo, and it saw 4 grams per liter dosage. The nose shows some real nuance, with a floral perfume lifting from the glass with delicate notes of sweet pastry cream, lemon curd, ripe pear, and chalky earth. Medium-framed and well-detailed, its more mineral texture and refined feel also reveal themselves, along with a refined pinpoint mousse and a delicate, rounded mid-palate. A very pretty wine from this vintage, it offers a bit more nuance and delicacy in this youthful stage. Drink it over the next 12-15 years.
93 Wine Advocate - Wine Advocate
Issuing entirely from the Montaigu vineyard in Chouilly, planted in 1951, the 2016 Special Club Chouilly Grand Cru is incisive and pure, reflecting the late-ripening vintage with all its attributes. Unfurling from the glass with aromas of white flowers, green apple and fresh lemon, it’s medium-bodied and bright with vividly chalky personality and a long, persistent finish. This is one of the most electric wines in the Gimonnet cellar from this vintage and justifies special pursuit. Vinified in tank, it was disgorged in July 2024 with a dosage of 4.5 grams per liter.

2017 Lopez De Heredia Cubillo Crianza
93 Luis Gutierrez - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The super bargain of the portfolio has to be the red 2017 Viña Cubillo Tinto Crianza, which this year shows more development and faster aging, with more tertiary notes than the other reds from 2013 and 2014 that I tasted next to it. The frost of April 2017 killed 100% of the vegetal mass at Cubillo, and the grapes they picked were exclusively from the second generation, therefore fruit that ripened in a much shorter cycle, as the harvest was also earlier. It has notes of damp earth, mushrooms, truffles and forest floor, dry leaves and decayed flowers and herbs. It has a polished palate and is medium-bodied, with mostly resolved tannins, and it feels a little lighter. But it's still worth it. It was produced with a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha and 5% each Graciano and Mazuelo from vines averaging 53 years of age. It fermented in their old oak vats and matured in used American oak barrels for three+ years. It has 13.5% alcohol, a 3.0 pH and 6.5 grams of acidity. 90,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2023.

2021 Vietti Barolo Nebbiolo from Italy
#147735 750 mL
2021 Vietti Barolo
A graceful wine with cinnamon, earth, strawberries, sweet violets and leesy complexity. There is a lot of fruit depth, with a full body, lifted acidity and dense, ripe, velvety tannins. The finish is polished yet tight. Drinkable now, but best from 2027.
94 Antonio Galloni - Vinous
The 2021 Barolo Castiglione is a superb entry-level Barolo from Vietti. Rich, deep and layered in the glass, the 2021 offers tons of near- and medium-term appeal. The blend of sites is compelling. Dark red-toned fruit, spice, menthol, and licorice are all beautifully amplified. In 2021, the Castiglione approaches the level of the crus, and that is saying something.

Mint, orange and medicinal herb aromas and flavors define this succulent red. Accents of red berry fruit and earth lurk in the background. Starts out fluid but tightens up, with a broad swath of tannins gripping the finish. Best from 2029 through 2048. 393 cases made, 150 cases imported.

2021 Noah Lessona Nebbiolo from Italy
#149547 750 mL
2021 Noah Lessona
91 Antonio Galloni - Vinous
The 2021 Lessona is the most aromatic of the five wines I tasted from Noah, but that is not surprising, as it is 100% Nebbiolo. Crushed flowers, herbs, mint, iron and white pepper lead into a core of brilliant red-toned fruit. Savory and floral notes are very present. At times, those nuances lean into the realm of the slightly vegetal. Otherwise, this is nicely done.

89-91+ Allen Meadows - Burghound
A slightly more elegant nose also reflects good Chablis typicity on the more floral-suffused aromas of apple, pear and quinine. In the same vein as the nose, the mouthfeel of the seductive, even opulent, medium weight flavors is more refined and just a bit denser as well, all wrapped in bitter lemon-inflected finish. I like the balance and this too could be enjoyed young or aged for a few years to good effect.
