The 2022 Chardonnay is creamy, ample and super-expressive. The 2022 spent 17 months in French oak, about 40% new. Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers and a gentle kiss of French oak infuse the Chardonnay with tons of character, offering lovely texture while retaining tons of freshness. It's a terrific wine, especially for the year.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Richaven is super-impressive. Rich, sumptuous and explosive, the 2022 is the most overt wine in this range. It's a style that works so well in exalting the natural exuberance of the Russian River. Dark fruit, mocha, licorice, incense and mocha all build into the dense, palate-staining finish. There's not much subtlety there, but that does not seem to be the goal, nor does it matter, to be honest.

“2023 Vacqueyras “Les 2 Monardes”- Domaine Monardière As I mentioned last year, the Vache family purchased this estate in 1987 and converted their vineyards over to organic farming in 2000. All of their vineyards are harvested by hand and their Vacqueyras “Les 2 Monardes” cuvée is made from a cépages of seventy percent grenache and thirty percent syrah. The vines that go into this bottling are forty years of age, with the bunches are destemmed and the wine fermented with native yeasts, prior to twelve months of élevage in a combination of tanks and used barrels. The 2023 Les 2 Monardes comes in at a svelte 13.5 percent octane in this vintage and delivers a simply superb bouquet of dark berries, grilled meats, pepper, bonfire, dark soil tones and a nice touch of upper register garrigue. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and complex, with an excellent core of fruit, firm, well-integrated tannins, fine balance and a long, promising finish. The wine will demand a few years in the cellar to soften up and blossom, but it is going to be excellent.”

The just-bottled 2024 Phyllit Sauvignon Blanc is pure, fresh, crystalline and saline on the elegant and laser-precise nose that intermingles bright stone and passion fruit with cumin and saline notes of crushed slate. Round and intense on the palate, this is a medium- to full-bodied, juicy and textural Sauvignon with fine tannins and a certain power on the finish. 12.5% stated alcohol. Screw-cap closure. The NV Champagne Brut is 62% Pinot Noir, 28% Meunier, and the rest Chardonnay. Its nose is floral and confectionary with aromas sweet pastry, flowers, and juicy pear. This translates to the palate, which is medium-bodied, with sweet fruit, suggesting an aperitif. It is clean and pure, with a kiss of sweetness from the dosage. Drink over the next 6-8 years.

The 2022 Colline Teramane Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Le Murate is impossible to ignore. Its burst of wild blueberries and sweet sage is complicated by hints of chalk dust and cocoa. This is wonderfully fresh and vibrant in style, with pure wild berry fruits and violet pastille that resonate throughout. It tapers off long and is perfumed with a liquid floral concentration, leaving traces of lavender and blue flowers lingering. This lovely Montepulciano is refined entirely in stainless steel tanks. It's a fantastic value.
