The 2017 Anfora Tinto is a 60/40 blend of Tinta Cão and Tinta Francisca aged for eight months in amphorae. It comes in at 13.3% alcohol. Trends tend to sweep the wine industry at times. Amphora-aged wines is one in Portugal, especially perhaps in Alentejo, where this quinta's owner is based. This is well done, with the blend imparting some earthier notes that mingle well with the amphora aging. It's concentrated—surprisingly solid in the mid-palate—complex and fresh. It's also way too tight just now—it could use a year or two in the cellar. This looks like a big winner that will age well, although there isn't much track record. We'll take it in stages and see how it goes.
