Jeb Dunnuck - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"A beautiful wine, with layers of cedary herbs, black cherries, currants, toasted spice and pencil lead, the 2014 El Jefe Tempranillo Stoneridge Vineyard hits the palate with full-bodied richness, an elegant, silky texture, plenty of concentration and a great finish. It’s just another incredible example of this variety coming from Washington.
One of my favorite tastings during my Washington trip is with Charles Smith and his right-hand man, Brenna Leighton. They have one of the most stacked lineups out there and their 2014s and 2015s are stunning across the board. All of the K Vintners see little to no destemming, native fermentations and aging in French oak. As I've said in the past, these wines are the real deal!"

"Healthy dark red. Knockout nose combines a sexy scent of raspberry candy, a perfumed floral element and a pungent citrus quality that I did not find in the lower-toned 2013 release. A juicy, energetic midweight offering excellent clarity and floral lift to its flavors of red fruits and spices, with a savory quality adding complexity. This superb Ribera del Duero-style Tempranillo conveys an impression of sappiness without undue weight and finishes perfumed and long. A sentimental favorite in my tastings this year owing to its alluring high tones throughout."
Product Description:
"Bullfight in the sand. This very earthbound wine is all that. Rich, meaty, dark cherry, jerky, tumbled river rock. The warmth of a fading sun. This wine may speak Spanish, but it is pure Washington.
The vineyards we work with are farmed using the most up to date sustainable practices.
Stoneridge Vineyard (100%): Alluvial fan gravel bed, the site rests above the flood plain of the Columbia River. Under the topsoil is a layer of caliche and basalt 6-12’’ deep, creating a calcium and iron rich media that forces roots to struggle.
Located at the base of the Blue Mountains in Walla Walla (Washington State), Charles Smith opened his first winery, K Vintners, in December of 2001. The first release,1999 K Syrah from Walla Walla Valley, initiated the style of winemaking that Charles continues today: small lots of single vineyard Syrahs and field blends of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Tempranillo, and Viognier, all of which are hand-picked, fermented with naturally occurring yeasts and basket pressed." -Winery
