"Limpid ruby-red. The highly perfumed nose features smoke- and spice-tinged red berries and cherry and picks up a sexy floral nuance with air. Smooth, appealingly sweet and open-knit, offering intense raspberry and cherry pie flavors and subtle lavender and succulent herb flourishes. Smooth tannins lend gentle grip to the floral-tinged finish, which hangs on with strong tenacity."

"Kirsch, blackberries, tapenade, and violet notes all emerge from the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Domaine Barville, which is 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and the rest Mourvèdre, brought up 20% new oak. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully polished and elegant on the palate, with ultra-fine tannins, it excels on its balance and is already a joy to drink. It's going to keep for over a decade. It's a smoking good wine."

"Well priced for a consistently high-quality wine, this opulent blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre is packed with pristine black cherry and plum flavors shaded by earth, smoke and black pepper. Penetrating in fruit and edged by fine-grained, persistent tannins, it's ready to drink now but should hold well through 2027. "

"A ripe, lush style, with delicious waves of raspberry, plum and boysenberry confiture rolling through, laced with red licorice and fruitcake flavors, backed by a sweet tobacco note. Maintains freshness and shows some accessibility already. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Best from 2020 through 2032. 3,800 cases made, 950 cases imported. — JM"

"Barville's 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape boasts only modest cherry fruit, but it compensates with darker flavors of earth, plum, dark chocolate and licorice. It's full-bodied and rich, with a velvety feel and a plush, almost fudge-like finish. Drink it over the next 10 years."
