About

Ratings:

94

Deep, intense purple-crimson; one whiff of this wine tells you its origin: McLaren Vale, with that coat of fine, dark Belgian/Swiss chocolate, its bitterness (in the best sense) carving back the impact the alcohol otherwise might have made, and lengthening the seductive palate.

92 Wine Spectator

"Dark and dense in color, opening a bit in texture, with grippy tannins wound around a solid core of blackberry and red plum flavors, lingering on the expressive finish. Drink now through 2020. 14,000 cases made. -HS" (03/14)

91 Josh Raynolds - Vinous Media

"Deep ruby. Smoky, spice-accented dark berry and cola aromas are complemented by an intense floral quality. Round and fleshy on the palate, offering sweet blueberry and cassis flavors and a bracing jolt of acidity to add lift. Closes with very good energy and focus, leaving spicecake and violet pastille notes behind." (07/13)

Very deep purple-black color, the 2012 Angels’ Share Shiraz shows of a classic McLaren Vale nose of crushed blackberries, blueberry preserves and dark chocolate over touches of pepper, espresso and cinnamon stick. Very full-bodied and generously fruited in the mouth, the abundant flesh is well framed by medium to firm, velvety tannins and just enough acid, before finishing with great persistence and balance. Drink it now to 2020+.

Product Description:

WINE:
"Deep red with black core. The bouquet is classic McLaren Vale showing notes of warm plums, blueberries, mulberry, mocha and subtle hints of coconut husk. Bold, rich and round. Crammed full of plummy fruit spice and Christmas cake. Finishes round, soft and cuddly yet very seductive. This wine is fun to drink now and will age well up to 10 years." -Winery

VINIFICATION:
"The grapes were crushed into and fermented in five, seven and 10 tonne open fermenters. During the peak of fermentation the batches received regular pump overs three times daily to extract colour, flavour and tannin. The average time on skins was 16 days. Once the parcels were dry, the fermenters were drained off and the skins pressed, with the pressings combined with the free run. After 24 hours the individual batches were racked to barrel where malolactic fermentation proceeded. The final blend was lightly fined and unfiltered prior to bottling." -Winery
