"Fine craftsmanship is evident in this Sardinian blend of Carignano and Syrah. The wine is rich and extracted, with bold fruit notes of blackberry and plum followed by spice and tobacco. Some toasted oak influences appear in the mouth alongside soft, smooth tannins. -ML" (02/13)

"Good ruby-red. Dark cherry and smoky plum aromas are complicated by sexy chocolate and herbal earth tones. Fresh, clean and captivating, with lovely ripe acidity giving shape and lift to the blackberry, smoky plum and grilled bacon flavors. Impressively rich and complex for an Italian syrah, with the stuffing to support its substantial but smooth tannins." (03/14)

"Spice, herb and underbrush notes mix with subtle black cherry and blackberry fruit in this elegant red, with juicy acidity. Well-knit, with a lasting, chewy finish. Syrah. Drink now through 2019. 6,000 cases made. -AN" (11/14)

"A blend of 60% Carignano and 40% Syrah, the 2009 Isola dei Nuraghi Malombra shows a very large frame (with a huge oak imprinting) and massive density that sits heavy and determined on the palate. The impenetrable appearance of the wine is reinforced by thick lines of Morello cherry, dried blackberry, leather, Indian spice and moist chewing tobacco. The wine walks with a heavy footprint and should be paired next to a cut of succulent red meat. " (12/14)

Product Description:

"The Mesa winery, owned by Gavino Sanna, Italy's most celebrated advertising professional, represents the beauty and goodness of Sardinia - a celebration of the island's generosity and culture expressed through one of its most noble treasures - wine. The estate is made up of 70 hectares of vineyards that focus largely on production of native Sardegna grape varieties. They are planted in the valley which shelters the vines from the surrounding sea winds. The winery was designed to ensure that both the grapes and the wines are treated with the deepest respect, using natural gravity flow production techniques instead of pumps.

'Malombra' has a luminous, rich, intense garnet red color. It has a delicate nose showing notes of well-ripened fruit with hints of pomegranate, quince jam, floral scents, vanilla and clove, tanned leather, pipe tobacco, and chocolate, all of which continue to the well-structured palate. Pairs well with char-grilled steaks, pot roasts, and mildly spiced dishes.

Cantina Mesa is located on the south-western tip of the island of Sardinia. It is said that grape vines were brought over to the island by the Phoenicians over 1,000 years ago. The climate of this area is ideal for grape-growing since the maestral breezes from the ocean keep the vines cool from the hot Sardinian temperatures.

The word "Mesa" means "dinner" or "table" in both the Sardinian and Spanish languages. The estate is dedicated to the strong philosophy of Sardinian culture. Cantina Mesa was created as a declaration of love and as a celebration of "all things Sardinian"; namely obtaining nourishment among friends, maternal love, simplicity, and blissfulness.

The state-of-the-art winery uses gravity in their winemaking process in order avoid damaging the grapes by pumping. Grapes are collected on the roof of the winery, travel down to the fermentation area, and finally arrive in the cool underground cellar to age." - Importer
