"Impressive density of fruity here with caramel, dried lemons, apricots and honey. Full yet reserved and beautiful. Wonderful length. One of the Sauternes of the vintage. Better in 2016." (05/13)

92-95 Ian Dagata - Vinous Media

"Medium yellow-gold. Complex, subtle nose offers green fig, peach, toffee, crystallized ginger and lemon drop aromas, plus a strong spicy botrytis note. Dense and moderately viscous but with excellent energy to the intense orange, apple pie, vanilla, cinnamon and marzipan flavors. Not hugely sweet or fleshy but seemed to grow more viscous and honeyed with air. Finishes crisp and extremely long, with a pretty orange liqueur complexity and a fabulous sense of balance. A potentially great vintage from this consistently excellent estate." (05/10)

95 Wine Enthusiast

"This is rich, exuding delicious sweetness, with a core of dense botrytis. An opulent, ripe apricot flavor accompanies the bittersweet orange and mirabelle fruit notes. The acidity, sweetness and concentration promise a great future for this wine. - RV" (02/13)

93 Neal Martin - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2009 La Tour Blanche has a gorgeous, botrytis-rich bouquet with lemon thyme, honey and spice, with just a touch of alcoholic warmth denying it the clarity it deserves. The palate is crisp and taut on the entry with notes of apricot and white peach emerging with a few swirls of the glass. It offers a pleasing viscosity and volume in the mouth, although compared to its barrel showing, it appears to have tightened up more than I expected, possibly a sign that it is a wine in for the long haul. Drink 2017-2035." (02/13)

92 Wine Spectator

"Ripe and broad, with lush buttered pecan and almond notes followed by rich apricot, orange and date flavors that glide through the finish, where a glazed pear note sits in reserve. This should cruise nicely through mid-term cellaring. Best from 2013 through 2024. 6,665 cases made. -JM" (03/12)

Product Description:

Wine:
"Using the three traditional Sauternes grape varieties Semillon, Sauvignon and Muscadelle this wine is the result of a severe selection. So as to optimise the beneficial effects of Noble Rot ("La Pourriture Noble"), harvesting is carried out in a series of selective pickings which often necessitates the grape-pickers going through the rows up to 4 or 6 times. Each vintage is vinified and aged in French-oak barrels, which are entirely renewed every harvest, for 16 to 18 months. Even so, in accordance with Chateau La Tour Blanche's policy of quality, certain vintages (although certified passable) are not bottled." - Winery

Vineyard:
"Chateau La Tour Blanche is situated in the heart of The Sauternes Appellation. About 40 km south of Bordeaux, this appellation covers nearly 2100 hectares and encompasses the five villages of Barsac, Bommes, Fargues, Preignac and Sauternes. The merging of The River Garonne and its colder tributary The Ciron creates a microclimate which accounts for the autumnal climate of early morning mists followed by bright sunny days. Consequently, botrytis cinerea, a microscopic fungus, finds itself in ideal conditions to develop on the grape berries causing an evaporation of the berries' water content. This phenomenon is known as Noble Rot ("Pourriture Noble")." - Winery

Producer:
"The construction of Chateau La Tour Blanche dates from the 18th Century. In 1855, The Imperial Government requested that the most deserving wines of The Gironde be submitted to The Universal Exhibition in Paris so that a classification system could be established. Chateau La Tour Blanche was placed top of The 'Premiers Crus' of The Sauternes Appellation. But it was not until the beginning of the 20th Century that the originality of this prestigious estate's history became really apparent. The former owner, Daniel Iffla, a.k.a. "Osiris", decided to bequeath the property to the French State under the condition that a Wine School be created on site. After having accepted the donation in 1909, The Ministry of Agriculture commissioned construction of La Tour Blanche School of Viticulture and Oenology in 1911. Despite its unusual status, this wine-producing Estate is entirely managed by authentic professionals in The Wine Trade." - Winery
