"From Sesti's south-facing vineyards in the far southwest of Montalcino, at altitudes of around 350 metres, this Riserva is a selection made from the estate's 20-year-old vines planted on marine sediment. It spends over four years in 30 litre botti, giving it some savoury, oxidative aromas, yet the aromas freshen up in the glass. In the mouth, cinnamon, dried herb and rose petal are intertwined with pomegranate and red cherry. It's somewhat sinewy in its size, but plenty of energy and chalky tannin lend support. "Ripe red berry, truffle, new leather and tobacco aromas fill the glass. It's juicy and full bodied, doling out ripe raspberry, sour cherry, star anise and crushed herb framed in chewy tannins. You'll also detect the warmth of alcohol but the fruit richness keeps it in check."
