(40% new oak; from vines on rocky soil just across from the house and winery in the middle of the village): Dark ruby-red. Very reticent but pure scents of purple fruits, minerals and licorice; an essence of Gevrey-Chambertin. Sharply delineated, extremely tight and primary, but also with exceptional fullness for village wine. These 2015s are all fruit bombs but this one boasts terrific chalky minerality to go with its gras. The rising, very long finish features serious tannins that will require serious aging. A portion of these vines dates back to 1934. Another outstanding village wine.

"Damien Livera farms 70-year-old vines at this lieu-dit right beside his cellar. That cellar is particularly cold, allowing the wine to develop slowly into a gripping and powerful Gevrey. The intensity of the black-cherry concentration is more than matched by the mineral power, the terroir coming through in a resonant iron-like vibration. A wine that performs far above its village level, this is structured to age."
