John Gilman - View from the Cellar
"The 2008 Clos de Bèze from the Gelin family is an outstanding example of this classic vintage, as the wine offers up a very deep and properly reserved bouquet of red and black cherries, woodsmoke, coffee, a nascently complex base of soil, mustard seed and cedary wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and beautifully focused, with a tightly-knit personality, a fine core of fruit, ripe, perfectly-integrated tannins and lovely acidity adding precision and purity on the very long, transparent and very classy finish. This is made from old vines, with one of the Gelin’s parcels more than forty years of age and the other parcel well in excess of one hundred years of age, and this has consistently been one of the best-kept secrets in the great vineyard of Chambertin “Clos de Beze”. The 2008 is an utterly classic example that will be superb with requisite bottle age. 2018-2060. "
