2014 Cascina Fontana Langhe Nebbiolo
Mario is a devotee of Bartolo Mascarello, and the family is very close to the Mascarellos [nephew] in proximity, winemaking style, and in the philosophy of blending their different parcels in order to make a normale house Barolo
"Our Langhe Nebbiolo is a special and unique wine. Nebbiolo of course is the great grape of the Piedmont, and the source of our greatest wines, such as Barolo and Barbaresco.
Cascina Fontana Langhe Nebbiolo ‘Vigna del Castello’ is produced from Nebbiolo grapes grown on the historic vineyard of the Castello di Sinio as well blended with a smaller proportion of Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Barolo wine zone on the vigneto Il Pozzo. The Castello di Sinio vineyard has been in our family for more than a hundred years, and for some decades was tended by Mario’s cousin Armando. Armando is now 92 years old and he still helps out in the vineyard that he knows so intimately.
Relatively light in colour (like all Nebbiolo wines), Langhe Nebbiolo ‘Vigna del Castello’ has structure and complexity, as well as a judicious balance of tannin and acidity that allows it to age and improve for upwards of 15 years." - Winery
