WINERY:
"El Seque is a project from Juan Carlos Lopez of Artadi. While Juan Carlos Lopez made a name for himself producing incredible Tempranillo in Rioja at Artadi (and Garnacha Navarra at Artazuri), the focus at El Seque is on Monastrell in the Alicante D.O., on the southeastern shoreline of Spain. Monastrell grows there at an average altitude of 600 meters. El Seque covers a relatively small 40 hectares. The soil, noted for its low virility, is pebbly with a low degree of humus and high degree of limestone. The vineyards enjoy a Mediterranean climate low rainfalls, lots of sun." -Importer
ALICANTE D.O.:
"Alicante, a city on Spain's Mediterranean coast long associated with strong, rustic wines which now gives its name to a denominated wine zone of 35,200 acres. This DO in the Levante extends from the city towards Yecla on the foothills of Spain's central plateau and allows eight different styles of wine." Jancis Robinson, The Oxford Companion to Wine
