2011 Gianni Valentini "Atunis" Maremma Toscana Igt
"Particularly deep red-violet color. Intense bouquet with hints of cherries and delicate red fruit preserves, soft vanilla notes." -Importer
With a beautiful maritime climate - not too mention a beautiful view of the sea - Maremma is ideal for international varieties like Merlot. This region is home to many of the original Super Tuscans like Sassicaia and Ornellaia.
The 2011 vintage was particularly stellar. In a 2014 Vinous Media article on Bolgheri, the Tuscan Coast and More Super-Tuscans, Ian D'Agata, "encourage[s] readers to give the 2011s their fullest attention." The Wine Spectator gave the vintage as a whole a 95 point rating. This was an overall warm year, yielding ripe, dense wines. The 2011 Gianni Valentini "Atunis" Maremma Toscana IGT ages 18 months in French oak barrels, imparting hints of vanilla, complimentary to the wine's luscious fruit.
