About

Rating:

92

"As with the 2007, the 2006 Domaine Boisson Cotes du Rhone Villages Cairanne l'Exigence Rouge is a selection of the estate’s oldest vines (70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre) and is aged for 9 months in barrel. Still showing a hint of its stint in barrel, the wine offers up a gorgeous bouquet of ripe plum and cassis fruit that’s intermixed with licorice, coffee, grilled meats, and spice box like aromas. Ripe and round on the palate, with a full bodied, decadent texture and a concentrated, powerful character, this will most likely continue to evolve for another 2-3 years, drinking well for a decade. " 92 Points - Jeb Dunnuck - Rhone Report

"Slightly richer, fuller, and meatier is the 2006 Cairanne L'Exigence, which is deep, medium to full-bodied, with beautifully sweet strawberry and black cherry fruit intermixed with licorice, crushed Provencal herbs, and meat juices. This wine should drink well for 6-7 years." 90 Points - Robert Parker

WINE:
"This cuvée is made from grapes growing on the best sections of the Domaine Boisson, i.e. old vines and best terroirs. The yield is low -30 hl/ha- enabling this wine to be kept for 10+ years. Due to the distinctiveness of the older vines, this Cuvée L’Exigence features the typical characteristics of a Cairanne - the finesse and elegance of a distinguished wine."

"Deep and intense garnet red. A complex combination of very ripe red and black fruit, enhanced by roasted and peppery notes. A distinguished taste, rich and powerful, marked by silky tannins. A long finish, characterised by aftertastes of ripe fruit and toasted flavours." -Winemaker

VITICULTURE:
"Cairanne: The different types of soil and exposure enable the Domaine Boisson to create a large variety of blends which brings a complexity to their wines. -Winery

DOMAINE:
"The historic roots of this property go back to the mid-nineteenth century, when the great, great grandfather of the present owner, Régis, bought land including a small stone cottage. At that time the cultivation was varied and included cereals, olive trees, vines, a meadow and a garden."

"After the Second World War René Boisson (lien), father of Régis, and grandfather of Bruno, developed the estate. After the olive trees froze during the terrible winter of 1956, he decided to replace them with vines. At that time, he also bought a wood of 10 hectares at Largarde-Paréol for cultivation. In 1957 René Boisson established his own wine production and left the Cave Cooperative of Cairanne."

"The advent of tractors enabled his son Régis to enlarge the property. The first bottle carrying the Domaine Boisson label appeared in 1986. Régis Boisson (lien) (son of René) and his son Bruno (lien), through their own training and experience brought a new vision to the wine production. The vinification is also supervised by Philippe Cambie (a oenologist from Châteauneuf-du-Pape)." -Winery
