About

Rating:

"The 2008 Morgon "Tradition" bottling from Jean-Luc Gauthier is a really lovely example of the vintage, with the touch of VA that I often find in this domaine’s wines, but which nicely blows off with decantation. The bouquet is deep, complex and classy, offering up scents of sweet cranberries, woodsmoke, autumnal tones, coffee, a bit of gamebird and a great base of soil. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and complex, with a lovely attack, a fine core, moderate tannins, good acids and a nice vein of fresh herb tones running through the palate, which is not really evident on the nose, but which adds another layer of savory complexity to the long finish. Make sure you decant this! 2013-2020+. 90."

Product Description:

"Vineyard: Sourced from 25-70 year old vines from vineyards throughout the Morgon appellation.
Soil: Decomposed granite regionally referred as "roches pourries" (rotten rock).
Viticulture: Farmed organically with some biodynamic practices, All fruit hand harvested.
Vinification: Whole cluster/indigenous yeast fermentations (semi-carbonic) in tank.
Aging: Aged on the lees in used barrique for 18 months. Bottled unfiltered.
Notes: The Tradition is a blend of parcels spread throughout the Morgon appellation. It is dominated by red fruit character - specifically tart cherry - and there is a lovely spice component followed by notes of biscuit and wheat. Gauthier's wines develop and change dramatically in the glass and will surprisingly gain in concentration if followed over a few days. With this in mind, we find the wines benefit from decanting and aeration." - Importer
