John Gilman - View from the Cellar
"Ch. du Hureau is one of my favorite estates in Saumur-Champigny, and their 2008 "Tuffe" bottling is a superb example of the vintage and a lovely wine for drinking over the next fifteen years or so. The nose on the '08 offers up a superb melange of cassis, woodsmoke, dark berries, a touch of menthol, fresh nutmeg, soil tones, tobacco leaf and a distinct note of espresso in the upper register. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and complex, with beautiful balance, an excellent core of fruit, with modest tannins, fine focus and superb length and grip on the really refined finish. Just a classic bottle of Saumur that is drinking beautifully already. "
