"Ferruccio Grimaldi's 2010 Barolo is an excellent introduction to the vintage. Dark red cherry, plum, cinnamon and new leather notes emerge from the glass in a distinctive, medium-bodied Barolo. The 2010 stands out for its energy, balance and poise. Freshly cut flowers and tobacco linger on the finish. The 2010 is showing beautifully at this stage, especially if given a little aeration. Dried flowers and spices linger on the lifted finish. I very much like the sense of energy and intensity here. Grimaldi's Barolo is made from plots in Ravera and Terlo, and aged in a combination of cask and smaller French oak barrels. 2016 - 2025." (01/14)

"Aromas of dark fruit and tar follow through to a full body, with chewy tannins and juicy fruit. Hints of toasted oak as well. Needs at least three to four years to come around." (04/14)

Product Description:

"Terlo, Ravera. Mid-concentrated maturing ruby. Leafy cherry fruit. There is richness too on the nose. Pretty solid cherry fruit framed by proper tannins. Hints of cherry and marzipan. Big tannic finish, and very long. Just a little dry for the moment. Drink 2014 to 2020. (WS)" 16.5 out of 20 points, Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages

TASTING NOTES:
"This is a deep and dense Barolo with dark fruit, spices and hints of toasted oak. A rich, round medium-bodied Barolo, with lovely balance and a long satisfying finish. An accessible Barolo for drinking now."

WINE:
"After hand harvest of the nebbiolo grapes from the vineyards in Barolo, the grapes undergo 5-7 days of maceration in temperature controlled horizontal rotofermenters. The malolactic fermentation follows in barrique. The wine then ages for 22-24 months in French oak, 50% in barrique and 50% in casks. After blending, the wine sits for 8 months in stainless steel tanks before bottling. Only 8,600 bottles of this wine are produced." -Importer
