John Gilman - View from the Cellar
"Chaignots is often the most forward and sappy of the premier crus chez Chevillon, but the 2011 version strikes me as tad more structured out of the blocks and seems destined to really be a great vintage for this lovely premier cru. The outstanding nose offers up great purity in its meĢlange of red and black cherries, blood orange, a beautiful base of minerality, nutskins, a deft framing of vanillin oak and a gently floral topnote that reminds me of peonies. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and beautifully transparent, with outstanding mid-palate depth, excellent focus and grip, and a very long, fine-grained and utterly refined finish. This will give the stellar 2010 Chevillon Chaignots a run for its money with a bit of bottle age. 2020-2050+."

"Here too discreet wood spice frames a pretty and cool mix of red and dark pinot fruit that is trimmed in warm earth nuances that are also reflected by the refined, pure and silky middle weight flavors. There is fine complexity and verve to the well-defined and persistent finish. A classic Chaignots of grace and harmony with no lack of aging potential."
