2011 Lubentiushof Uhlen Riesling Alte Reben
"Barth's super-long, cool fermentations give the wines a haunting and gauzy textural quality, feeling almost airy with breadth and restraint. The Uhlen Alte Reben, or 'old vine' bottling shows a very unique minerality. Gonzo depth and detail, powerful yet still so nimble and mysterious. Barth owns a micro-scopic parcel of the Uhlen - only 500 bottles of the Alte Reben are produced. VERY LIMITED. Statistics: 12% alcohol, 16 grams residual sugar with 6 acidity." -Importer
"Andreas and Susanne Barth own 4 hectares in the Lower Mosel, or Terrassenmosel (Terraced Mosel). They built up the property and its reputation almost from scratch: installing a new cellar, investing in monorails for their steep vineyards, and replanting vines in long forgotten sites. Lubentiushof is one of the big three producers - along with Heymann-Löwenstein and Knebel - of this tail end of the Terrassenmosel."
"In Uhlen, they have a parcel nearer the village of Kobern. This is mostly blue slate and differs from certain sections further downstream - towards the Moselle Viaduct, the high autobahn bridge, and the town of Winningen - that have iron-rich red slate and hard sandstone." -LarsCarlberg.com
