About

Rating:

91

"A blend of 100% Mourvèdre that comes from the estate’s oldest vines, the Cuvée Longue Garde is a special cuvée that’s only produced in exceptional vintages. The inky, semi-opaque purple colored 2007 delivers a decidedly rich, rounded bouquet of warm plums, licorice, baking spices, and hints of chocolate (among other things) that leads to a full-bodied, mouth filling, rustic Bandol that has excellent mid-palate depth and ripe, chewy tannin on the finish. Very traditional, and with a very slight oxidative quality, it needs air to show at its best. While it has the fruit and texture to drink nicely now, it should also have upwards of a decade of overall evolution."

Product Description:

"The 2007 vintage is an exceptional wine of youthful vigor and concentrated fruit, so much so that the vintage called for the grand 'Longue Garde' cuvee to be produced in addition to the normal Bandol. The 'Longe Garde' is 100% Mourvedre from the estate’s oldest vines and expands the aromatic profile of the wine to notes of sap and char; a wine for the long haul. This cuvee is bottled exclusively for our account and only in the finest of vintages. In this case, only 600 bottles have been produced; the overwhelming majority of the fruit from the most senior vines of the estate remains dedicated, per the dictates of Cyrille Portalis, to the classic cuvee." -Importer
