"The von Othegraven 2009 Kanzemer Altenberg Riesling Kabinett is shrouded in some fermentative afterbirth, but beyond that memorably floral (reminiscent of peony and lilac), as well as redolent of cherry, white peach, and nut oils. Subtly creamy, delicate, and insistently refreshing, it combines textural allure with a striking and in the context of this collection relatively surprising sense of transparency to pungent and saliva-inducing saline, smoky, and stony nuances. I would look for 15 or more years of delicious fascination here, but be aware that the wine's nose may or may not improve short term – that is an annoyingly capricious phenomenon with a significant minority of young, spontaneously-fermented Mosel Rieslings." 90+ points - David Schildknecht - Wine Advocate

"A little more fruit on this, though the spontaneous-fermentation aromas are still there. Fresh ripe apple with a mineral touch. Firm structure, good length. Drink 2010 to 2014. (MS)" 16 out of 20 points, Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages

WINE:
"CORE-LIST WINE. The '08 was my wine of the vintage; how will this be? It has more pungent rotliegend aromas, almost like a Nahe wine; 5-spice, a cherry wood fire; juicy and masculine, a gorgeously tart complex clinging to the side-palate; a marvelous Riesling and a foodie’s dream. Long, juicy, delicate yet strong. SOMMELIER ALERT! SOS: 1 (8-22 years)." -Importer

WINERY:
"The Winery Of The 2008 Vintage is…. Wow, von Othegraven. For an ethereal collection of quintessential Saar wines that haunted me for days, and from which I recovered wine memories of my earliest days when every sip of such a thing was miraculous. But this was a hard choice, because there were two runners-up who were objectively as good. Othegraven's wines take me back to a kind of pre-cognitive state I remember when I first tasted great Saar Riesling: How on earth can this thing BE? I know they're expensive and misaligned with the market, but if you have room for a splurge, make it this one." -Importer
