About

Product Description:

"The Germain family, proprietor of the best Beaune premier crus, one of the first domaines to plant Chardonnay in their Pernand Vergelesses vineyards, possibly the finest producer of Chorey-le Beaune, is present in all fine French restaurants. The Domaine is regularly awarded first prize whenever sommeliers organize competitions. Their wines in all appellations are models of consistency. However, Beaunes and Nuits St. Georges are currently out of fashion and the consumer is pushed into thinking that these two appellations are unimportant and not worth exploring. ( There are over forty premier cru Beaunes, a panoply of personalities ranging from elegant to lusty). The domaine boasts eight of them including Benoit Germain's astounding Tante Berthe, a wine with grand cru aspirations. Benoit took over from his father, François, in 2001. The appellations retain their clarity and definition, however, they now have the addition of a certain forcefulness. (I have been working with the Germains since 1978 and remember fondly the importer we captured and made taste back and forth, back and forth, until he could identify all the premier crus).
