"The 2008 Pinot Noir Hansel Family Vineyards (dry-farmed vineyards planted with Pinot selections taken from the Rochioli vineyards) exhibits crisp red cherry, sassafras, and autumnal, earthy vegetative notes, medium to full body, pure red and black fruits, and a heady finish. It should be consumed during its first 5-7 years of life." 90-92 points Robert Parker

"Light, bright red. Spicy red berries and cherry on the nose, with a faintly medicinal aspect that fades with aeration. Pliant raspberry and bitter cherry flavors are given spine and lift by zesty minerality. Very fresh pinot, with a firm, focused finish that leaves bitter cherry skin and pit notes behind." 90 points - Josh Raynolds - International Wine Cellar

WINERY:
"Walter Hansel Winery is located in Sonoma County at the southern tip of the Russian River Valley near the Sebastopol hills. It is bordered to the north by the Santa Rosa Creek and to the west by a tributary of the Russian River known as the Laguna de Santa Rosa. This location is ideal for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as the nights and mornings are cooled by coastal fog yet the mid-days warm up to perfect grape ripening temperatures. Temperature swings of 40 degrees are very common."

"In our first commercial vintage, 1996, we produced 70 cases of Pinot Noir and 350 cases of Chardonnay; and released this wine to the public in 1998. Today, Walter Hansel Winery farms 80 acres of grapes and produces roughly 5,000 cases of Pinot Noir; 5,500 cases of Chardonnay; and 1,500 cases of Sauvignon Blanc. All of our wines are Estate grown; our vineyard designated wines are an expression of the character of the variety of grape clone and how it integrates with the individual soils, elevations and climate environment. These wines are intended to vary in flavor, acidity and to a lesser degree, texture. Our Estate wines (i.e., non-vineyard designated offerings) are a blend of many clones from a variety of vineyard locations. They are designed to be the most approachable wines at a young age."-Winery
