"On the basis of my first experience with his wines, José Dhondt's roughly 15-acre estate split between the Côte des Blancs and Côte de Sézanne is worthy of further exploration, not to mention of consumer attention. Based 70% on vintage 2010, the Dhondt NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Disg. 2/2013 deftly combines a silken and creamy texture with luscious and brightly juicy fresh lime and pear, hints of almond and honey, adding richness to a long finish at once soothing and stimulating. The eight grams of residual sugar support this seamless and polished bottling without being noticeable as such. A fine value, it should remain a delight for at least the next couple of years." "The current release of José Dhondt’s non-vintage Blanc de Blancs bottling is the same wine I reported on a year ago, and the wine continues to drink with all of the verve and bounce of youth. The bright and zesty nose jumps from the glass in a mix of golden delicious apples, chalky minerality, pears, crème patissière and a topnote of fruit blossoms. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and still quite racy, with a superb core, frothy bubbles and a long, minerally and youthful finish. A very well-made bottle of Blanc de Blancs that shows all of the inner intensity of Oger fruit, coupled with an excellent spine of acidity and impressive grip. This is still early days for this fine bottle. 2014-2030. 90+.

Product Description:

"José Dhondt (pictured) is a third-generation winegrower, currently at the helm of this small estate on the main road in Oger. Dhondt’s grandfather came to the Champagne region from Belgium in 1924; José himself has been making wine here since 1976, after returning to the family estate in 1973 following his military service. Dhondt owns five hectares of vines, primarily in Oger but also a little in the neighboring village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, and also in Saudoy in the Sézanne, where he grows both chardonnay and pinot noir. His winemaking facility is located on the outskirts of the village, housing a traditional Coquard vertical press along with a full array of temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks that he uses for fermentation. Malolactic is always carried out, to balance the naturally high acidity of the Côte des Blancs chardonnay." -Peter Liem, Champagne Guide
