David Schildknecht - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"From a pebbly, thinner soil immediately down slope of Les Baudines (and - like that site - adjacent to Santenay La Comme), Thomas Morey's 2007 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Embrazees smells alluringly of lily-of-the-valley, white peach, lemon, and nut oils; offers a savory, saline as well as chalky mineral underpinning for the bright, juicy peach, yellow plum, orange, and lemon on a texturally soothing palate; and finishes with haunting length and a reprise of floral perfume in liquid form. This beautifully-proportioned, subtle wine should prove versatile and worth following over the next 4-6 years. Following the division of Bernard Morey's domaine between his two sons, Thomas Morey has set up facilities opposite his home in Chassagne and will supplement his 8.5 hectare acreage with contracts. A report on the inaugural vintage of his brother, Vincent, is also included in this report. There is an attractive tasting room, but Morey describes the cellar as just big enough, provided he racks the young wines out of the barrel and assembles them in tank before the next vintage is harvested."
