Thursday, September 24th. You know what that date means. It’s been marked, circled in a red wine spill print on your calendar since ABC network announced it on June 10th.

For those oblivious to the unofficial national holidays of the pop culture world, September 24th marks the day that Scandal returns to air. From then on, every Thursday night of the season from 9 - 10 PM, your soul belongs to your TV, and you’re reminded of the only reason you signed up for cable.

In true Olivia Pope fashion, wine is required for this fifth inaugural event, for both the countdown and especially premiere night. If you’re feeling especially scandalous, see our list of wine and popcorn pairings.

Two weeks prior the premiere, pop open a bottle of our 2013 Barton & Guestier (B&G Passporte) Bordeaux Red. More complex than the love triangle pentagon, the toasty notes of black and red currant will get your palate ready for the taste of thrill and suspense that is sure to take place.

One week prior, give the 2012 Chateau Chatard a pour. Given a 90 point rating by Wine Enthusiast magazine, this Merlot/Cab Sauv blend is living proof that a delicious Bordeaux doesn’t have to empty the savings account you somewhat lie to your parents about. Enjoy the fruity berry flavors as you let your imagination run wild as you ponder what could be next in store for Cyrus and Mellie (as if you could really guess).

The night of September 24th, an evening that will probably change your life for the next three months, have a bottle of 2012 Willowbrook Cellars Pinot Noir ready to go. Forget the glass, we are WAY past that at this point. Fruity on the palate followed by an oaky finish is the perfect pairing for any possible setting that can be thrown at viewers. Whether it’s the oval office, Olivia’s living room, or to be real, hopefully a house in Vermont.

Enjoy yourself and rejoice in the only reason to be excited for the slow return of cold weather.
