Just read these two 90 Point reviews:

"This finds a very happy medium between hyper fruit and sweetness, and firming tannins and supportive acidity. It smells like dark cherries and cocoa, tastes like chocolate-covered cherries and finishes like an espresso. The blend is 56% Cabernet, with Syrah, Cabernet Franc and 1% Viognier." - 90 Points - Wine Enthusiast

"Smooth and ripe with lush blackberry and spice; nicely structured and toasty, long and balanced." - 90 Points - Anthony Dias Blue - Tasting Panel

This was one of the fastest decisions we made this year. From the moment we tasted it ... from the time the Purchase Order was cut ... we knew this was a winner. What really grabbed us was how easy to drink this was. It was full bodied with great structure of fruit, not over the top at all ... and the finish ... it seemed to go on for 45+ seconds!

Located just across the ridge from Napa Valley

Casey Flat Ranch is not quite a secret anymore.

We have been fans of these wines for several years. Despite the fact that Casey Flat is in the Capay Valley, on just about every trip out to Napa, our paths cross. The wines have always been outstanding and after tasting the 2012 Estate Red, we were convinced that this was one of the most exciting Cabernet blends we have tasted this year!!

On top of that, we started thinking. If a wine that was this good had a Napa Appellation on it ... what would the price be. Our guess - close to double at least!

Casey Flat Ranch is located in the Vaca Mountain Range just across the ridge from Napa Valley. The property is owned by the Morey family, who purchased the heart of the estate in 1987 and later added contiguous parcels to bring the total acreage up to the current 6,000 acres. The Capay Valley features warm days, mild nights and plenty of sunshine perfect conditions for both Bordeaux and Rhone varieties. The appellation’s best sites are situated in the higher elevations where the temperatures are cooler and the winds are stronger.

Back in November of 2012, The Tasting Panel featured Casey Flat to display exactly what they are trying to achieve. It's a great read. Fast Forward to today, and this wine. After you taste it, you will see they are clearly succeeding in every step of the way.

On top of all that, Laura Barrett, winemaker for Casey Flat Ranch worked under Mia Klein whose resume includes Chappellet, Araujo, Spottswoode, Viader and Dalla Valle. Truly winemaking royalty! Read more about her history and her style here.
