Too tired to cook? Looking to get some friends together? Just because?

We love nothing more than a good wine and cheese party, but we know the whole selection process leading up to the event can be stressful. Here are a few tips for throwing a great party from our Gourmet Library team:

1. If it grows together, it goes together.
Pair wines and accompaniments regionally. Drinking French? Select French and French-inspired cheeses. Sipping Spanish? Go go manchego.

2. Keep your guests in mind.
If your friends and family aren't strong cheese lovers, don't buy something extra funky. Try a crowd-pleasing cheese, like a triple creme or cheddar.
If your guests are diehard cheese fans, then, by all means, go nuts.

3. Arrange cheeses by strength.

Don't start off with a blue cheese. Start out with more subtle selections and gradually build in strength. You want your guests to get the fullest flavor from each cheese.

4. Leave room for dessert.
Pair chocolate with cheese. This makes for a great after-dinner course.

5. Don't forget the fruit.
Grapes make great palate cleansers. Olives and nuts bring different tastes and textures. Jams and spreads, bread and crackers, these all add to the fun of your board.
