About

Rating:

88-91

"The 2008 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Rasteau exhibits more density as well as a deeper ruby/purple color, and a sumptuous bouquet of black raspberries, black cherries, white chocolate, and pepper, sweet tannin, and none of the rusticity or overbearing body and power of a Rasteau. It should drink nicely for 5-8 years." 88-91 Points - Robert Parker

WINE:
"An assembly of parcels in Rasteau, with an average yield of 38 hl/ha. Farming: Lutte Raisonnee. Age of Vines: 60-80 years old. Aging: Aged in cuve beton (concrete)" -Importer

PRODUCER:
"Domaine la Colliere is a small family estate founded by Georges Perrot. He began bottling his own wine in 2003, renting some cellar space from the mad king of Rasteau, Andre Romero of Domaine Soumade fame. Prior to 2003 all the juice went to one of the big negociants. Reknown Rhone enologist Philippe Cambie consults on the project, which is already receiving rave reviews from the press."

"Robert Parker says, “This unheralded estate is making fabulous wines from their 62 acres of vines spread throughout Rasteau and the surrounding Cotes du Rhone appellation. Proprietor Georges Perot utilizes the services of the enormously talented Philippe Cambie, and, as one might expect, these are full-flavored, wonderfully pure, complex wines that respect their appellation.” LR -Importer

APPPELLATION:
"Rasteau covers an area of 1880 hectares with 1240 devoted to the vine. It has a Mediterranean climate and the exposure of the vineyards is excellent: 70% of them are on south-facing hillsides (at 200-400 metres) swept by the Mistral; the soils are different types of clayey limestone, some of them covered with smooth stones."

"The diversity of soils and grape varieties explains why Rasteau wines have such complexity in their aromas and flavours and are so potent, fine and elegant. The average age of the vines is 40, though some plots are over 80 years old: grapes from the old vines are used for Rasteau Vin Doux Naturel and and Cotes du Rhone Villages." -Importer

This wine was also scored 87 points by the Wine Spectator.
