The source of the fruit for this excellent cabernet is the vineyards in Wilyabrup in this very good cabernet year. An opening salvo of blackcurrant and dark chocolate, and plummy nuances announces this as Margaret River cabernet. It’s generous and intense, but more towards elegance and medium-bodied. Seamlessly integrated, with the use of 30% French oak adding a little palate kick. A complete and polished cabernet.

A sweet fruited, warm and generous embrace of Margaret River Cabernet. The region does it so well, its Mediterranean climate providing some well-ripened black fruits here – blackberry, dark plum, cassis – with background notes of woody spices, anise, vanillin oak, leaf, earth, briar and a tantalising hint of eucalyptus. Approachability is high with its soft, round curves and overall elegance. Some smart oak integration and immediate drinking pleasure right now will have drinkers tossing up whether to open now or wait a little longer. Why not both? Mid-term ageing is definitely on the cards.

A nicely structured, perfumed red wine building in the glass with black cherry and blackberry fruit, a hint of sous bois, or that kind of warm foresty redwood grove and earth aroma, and dusty clay mineral note, all framed by dusty Rutherford tannin that has a chocolaty quality to it, and a rich tapestry of velvety soft dark berry fruits, creme de cassis, and warm spices through the mineral-scented finish.

A wisp of honeydew melon melds with aromas of shortbread, Thai basil, gunflint and butter. This is a lighter-bodied Chardonnay where just enough acidity matches up with flavors of lemon, toasted marshmallow and white grapefruit. Given that trovato means "found" in Italian, it is appropriate that this wine is a nice find.

On the palate, it offers impeccable structure, with ripe tannins and vibrant acidity that perfectly balance the lush, spiced cherry and plum flavors. While it is already delicious, this wine has the potential to evolve gracefully over the next decade or more.
