About

"The 2015 Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard is silky nuanced and beautifully lifted in the glass. Striking inner perfume, expressive aromatics and dark shades of red-toned fruits abound. It will be interesting to see if the 2015 fleshes out a bit more in the glass."

90-93 Robert Parker - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2015 Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard is 88% Zinfandel and 12% mixed black varieties as well as a handful of white varieties such as Malvasia and Muscat. This is another killer wine, as it is always one of the top wines in his extensive and impressive portfolio. The alcohol is 15.3%, but that’s a minor component to this big, juicy, succulent, in-your-face, dramatic Zinfandel that boasts raspberry, black cherry, strawberry, licorice, tar, earth and roasted Provençal herbs. It is spicy and elegant, but at the same time, heady, rich and generously endowed. Drink it over the next 7-10 years.

A great success story, Mike Officer’s Carlisle Winery continues to not only protect heritage old-vine sites in Northern California, but to also turn out a bevy of realistically priced, delicious, consumer-friendly wines, primarily from Zinfandel, although Officer can also turn a trick or two with Grenache, Petite Sirah and Syrah."

Product Description:

"Full-bodied. Concentrated. Opulent. These are some of the descriptors we often hear applied to our wines. However, we also hear the words elegant, balanced, complex. Yes, through hard work in the vineyard and winery, we believe you can have it all, the best of both worlds. Our approach to winemaking is simple, yet difficult. We prefer to intervene in nature’s process as little as possible. We often rely on uninoculated fermentations and use minimal new oak. We rarely fine or filter. However, we are not dogmatic and will intervene if we feel it results in a higher quality wine while still remaining true to the vineyard.

The Carlisle Vineyard was planted in 1927. As was tradition with the vines are head pruned and are farmed sustainably. It appears that our efforts to rejuvenate this 89-year-old vineyard are paying off. Yields have increased in the last several years to a modest 2.4 tons to the acre. That’s much better than the .5 to .8 tons per acre we were getting 10 years ago! But despite the increase in yields, the fruit is ripening more evenly and earlier, all indicators of improved vine health. This was an incredibly easy wine to make with no adjustments required. It was just a matter of getting the fruit into tank and then letting Mother Nature do the rest." -Winery
