The 2015 Touriga Nacional (Churchill's Estates) was aged for 12 months in used French oak. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol. Tightly wound, understated and restrained, this has a solid mid-palate but plenty of mid-palate finesse. The fruit is dry and clean—this isn't sweet and fruity—and the tannins are ripe. Even though this is not particularly fruity, as it opens, its pure fruit becomes both enticing and delicious. This won't be an attention-getter, but it will drain fast at the table. It's a great food wine.
