"The polished texture masks depth and muscle in this powerful red. Shows blackberry, anise, tar and mineral flavors, with spicy and floral highlights. Firm tannins and fresh acidity lend good balance. Expressive, in an austere way. Drink now through 2027." Reviewed May 25, 2016

"The 2012 San Roman is produced with the fruit of their older vines out of their 96 hectares of vineyards in Toro. They have reduced the amount of the new oak here. The aromas are very mineral of red clay, iron, a mixture of plums, black and red cherries and again something earthy, elegant and complex, developing meaty notes with time. The palate is medium to full-bodied, fresher than 2011, with very fine tannins and very good acidity. This is a superb version of San Román. This is one of the few wines from Toro that actually improves with time in bottle. 93,000 bottles were filled in March 2015." Reviewed October 2015.
"The wine is austere but intriguing with its aromatic range with predominating notes of earth, licorice and spices. It unfolds with dynamism and liveliness on the palate, well-integrated oak and succulent tannins. San Roman 2012 was bottled in March 2015 after 24 months in French and American oak barrels both new and used." - Winery
