John Gilman - View from the Cellar:

"The 2012 Cober Tinto from Goyo García, as mentioned above, is made up of a blend of seventy percent ancient Mencía vines and thirty percent hundred year-old Palomino, cofermented like his Ribera del Duero bottlings, and raised in eight year-old barricas prior to bottling. The wine came in at 13.2 percent octane in the 2012 vintage and is stellar, soaring from the glass in a complex mélange of dark berries, smoke, pomegranate, a touch of new leather and feet, with lovely intensity of flavor, great elegance and focus and a very long, tangy and supremely transparent finish. This wine will age gracefully for many years, thanks to it's impeccable balance, but does not possess a whole lot of tannin and is already a very, very tasty bottle for drinking today! 2014-2030+. 92+." - John Gilman, View from The Cellar

Product Description:

Goyo also makes wine in Cantabria, the region where his mother comes from, high up in the Picos de Europa mountain range, where there is a little known out-cropping of old vine Mencia and Palomino planted on pure broken slate. With the help of a viticultor from the area, Goyo uses similar practices as his Duero reds to produce beautiful mountain-laden, mineral-inflected natural wines. That’s right, Palomino gone Wild!
