About

Rating:

90+

"This is the first release of the entry level offering, the 2009 Flor de Vetus made from 100% Tinta de Toro. Deep purple in color, it offers up a mildly brooding bouquet with hints of tar, chocolate, espresso, spice box, and assorted black fruits. Dense on the palate with layers of fruit, this plush, savory effort will evolve for 1-2 years but can be approached now.

Vetus is a new winery and project based on old vineyards from the Anton family, owners of Villacreces in Ribera del Duero and Izadi in Rioja."

Product Description:

Wine:
"The 2009 vintage was rated as excellent for the DO Toro. It was considered a perfect year speaking in terms of weather: Frosts in winter, rain until spring time and a dry blooming period which allowed the grapes to grow in the perfect conditions.

Deep black cherry color and an expressive aroma of fresh fruit. In the palate we find a well-balanced and structured wine with medium-high body and a clean and pleasant finish. Farming: sustainable. Age of Vines: 20 years. Aging: 10 months in new French and American oak." - Importer

Winery:
"In 2003 the face of Artevino, the Antón family, expanded into Toro, well aware of the region's future potential. After selecting different vineyards, they made the first vintage of Vetus, a wine designed to keep the region's essence but with new nuances and goals. The wine's success encouraged them to set up an estate in the heart of the region and to build a bodega which was opened in 2008.

The estate is divided into three vineyards of different ages, each in different surroundings. This makes for individual attention being given to each vine and, accompanied by a careful vinification of each parcel, gives more depth and complexity to the wine." - Importer
