Mark Squires - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2016 Reserva is a Syrah with 4% co-fermented Viognier aged for 16 to 20 months, depending on the plot, in 40% new French oak. It comes in at 14.1% alcohol. Crisper and brighter than the Parcela 24 this issue, this is a bit more gripping on the finish. It doesn't seem quite as fleshy or as expressive, but they are both unevolved, and this might even be less so. As with the Parcela 24, the house style is similar—some of this wine's best features revolve around its finesse and precision. This will need at least a couple of years of cellaring to become more expressive, if nothing else, because the fruit is a little dominated by the structure just now, but this might show even better around 2025-2027. This will not be released until September 2021 in Portugal.
