"Kalfu's 2014 Sumpai Syrah is sourced from the Leyda Valley, from Las Terrazas Vineyard where the soils are granitic clays and alluvial with boulders, at only seven kilometers from the sea. It fermented in stainless steel after a seven day cold soak and it matured in French barriques, 15% of them new, for ten months. All of the Kalfú wines come from coastal regions, and this is a textbook cool climate Syrah with hints of smoky bacon, a vegetal twist (think raspberry leaf) and some cracked pepper; but the riper notes of black olives are not really present. The palate is medium-bodied with some grainy tannins, and very good freshness and acidity. This is very good Syrah and very good value too. 6,667 bottles were filled in June 2015." Luis Gutiérrez
