"This is a very opulent bottling by Steve Martell, who blends 83% Syrah, 16% Grenache and 1% Mourvèdre to deliver aromas of black-plum sauce, hot licorice, hoisin and buttery pie crust. Rounded milk chocolate flavors show on the sip, melted atop the rich and ripe core of black cherry and cassis. It's a tad hot on the tongue. -MK"

"The 2014 Praying Mantis offers more black fruits, wood smoke, espresso and chocolate aromatics, with a full-bodied, focused style on the palate. It will have slightly more longevity than the straight Syrah. The blend is 83% Syrah, 16% Grenache and the rest Mourvèdre, aged 24 months in 60% new French oak."

"Composed of 83% Syrah, 16% Grenache and 1% Mourvèdre, the 2014 Praying Mantis has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and delivers gregarious scents of baking blackberries, black forest cake, spice box and incense with touches of dried herbs and mocha. The full-on powerful, full-bodied palate fills the mouth with spicy berry preserves flavors, framed by chewy tannins and finishing on an earthy note."
