"Crackerjack wine. Bursting with complex quality but more-ish from the first sip to the last. Meat, violets, anise, sweet black cherry and cracks of pepper and assorted woody spice. It's fresh and lively but has volume aplenty. Indeed it fills the mouth, reaching to all corners, leaving no stone unturned. Nutty aftertaste and ultra fine-grained tannin completely expected given what comes before."

Product Description:

"Michael Downer has a passion for the Hills and the uniqueness of the mesoclimates and soils. In 2012 he set out on his mission for site-driven, artisanal wines - aptly named 'Artisan.' Michael crafts the wines from vineyard to bottle using a minimalistic approach, utilizing indigenous yeast, whole bunch fermentation and extended skin contact to best express the fruit and unique characters of each distinguished vineyard.

The Landau Syrah was made from fruit sourced from the Murdoch Hill estate vineyard in Oakbank on a predominately east-facing slope on shallow soils with varying levels of schist rock and ironstone. Located on the eastern part of the Adelaide Hills where warm day temperatures help facilitate the ripening of Syrah, while afternoon gully breezes keep night conditions very cool. This helps to retain natural acidity and gives typically spicy cool climate Syrah characteristics. Minimal winemaking influence is practiced to ensure the characters of the vineyard thrive, with varying levels of whole bunches and whole berries included in the small 1 ton open ferments. This traditional practice provides incredible aromatics of spice and clove whilst adding an amazing fine-layered texture to the wines. Oak maturation is kept to a minimum with older French oak used for a period of 9-10 months to best express the characters of the vineyard. " -Importer
