"Jean-Louis Chave makes these négociant wines to showcase what he believes to be the potential of the appellations with which he works.

Under the Jean-Louis Chave Selections label, Jean-Louis produces two Hermitages, one red and one white... The Rouge, "Farconnet," comes from three distinct parcels: Diognières, Péleat, and Greffieux. It also, depending on the vintage, contains some domaine fruit that did not make it into the domaine Hermitage bottling along with purchased fruit.

The grapes from this negociant red Hermitage come from 3 distinctive parts of the Hermitage hill. Diognières is at the base of the hill on alluvial soil brought by the river ages ago. It is a sandy clay soil with many small pebbles, and it gives spice to the wine. The next parcel is Péleat. It sits above Diognières and is composed of more sand and limestone in the clay. It gives finesse to the wine. Finally, Greffieux sits at the base of Le Meal on the hill. Its soil consists of rolled river stones brought by the glaciers. It gives the flesh in the wine." - Importer
