About

Ratings:

"The '10 vintage allowed the heroic style of Wild Duck Creek free rein; there are multiple layers of black fruits, licorice and mocha/fruitcake flavours on the mid-palate, but curiously backs off on the back-palate and finish."

92+ Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Deep purple-black colored, the 2010 Springflat Shiraz is a little closed on the nose at this stage, offering subtle aromas of creme de cassis, blackberry preserves, mulberries and spice cake with hints of anise, vanilla and chocolate covered dates. Very big, full and rich on the nose, it has a good backbone of very crisp and medium to firm rounded tannins to support, finishing with very long, lingering spice notes. Approachable now, it should drink best 2014 to 2024+." Reviewed June 2012

If there is such a thing as a WOW wine ... this is it!

This is the kind of wine crowds will flip for. It's a wine that people will talk about all night. It's a wine that ... since it is not a big production item - many people will not be familiar with. In fact, it is one of Australia's top wines from a producer that has a rich history of amazing wines.

Wild Duck Creek has been a huge favorite of Wine Library customers for years, and today's release has proven to be one of the best deals in the history of this label!

Every single vintage of this wine has earned a 90+ point score from Robert Parker's the Wine Advocate. Every. Single. One.
This wine has earned outstanding press for years. This year is no different. The first vintage that Robert Parker himself rated was all the way back in 1997 and he scored the wine 93 Points. Since then, this wine has earned 90+ scores vintage after vintage.

Cult Wine revealed!
It all started with a 99 Point score by Robert Parker back in 1997

Wild Duck Creek Estate is one of those cult wineries in Australia, based outside of Melbourne, that achieved much of its acclaim due to a mixture of excellent winemaking techniques (vinification is entirely effected through manual pressing), a winemaker with a keen sense of good wine (David knows and deeply loves his vines), and of course, that Robert Parker 99-pointer for their flagship "Duck Muck" in the '97 vintage.

"We are a small family-run winery situated 8km west of Heathcote, alongside the Wild Duck Creek. David (aka 'Duck') and Diana planted the first vines in 1974 and in 1979 named the first vineyard Alan's Cabernet Vineyard, after Duck’s late father Alan. The Original Vineyard was planted in 1988 on land owned by Diana's parents. Duck and Diana have three children - Liam, Ngaire and Bridie. Traditional winemaking methods including hand-picking, open fermentation, hand-plunging, basket-pressing, and long-term barrel-ageing are fostered, as is the use of biodynamic principles on our own vineyards. Duck remains adamant however, that it’s still the vineyard and site selection especially, that dictate great wines. Second-generation winemaking has flourished for more than a decade through Liam, whose methodical yet innovative approaches merge fantastically with Duck's eccentricity - a humorous and brilliant concoction! Our passion is to produce extraordinary wines of balance and power that enrich and delight the senses.

Prior to deciding which wines will ultimately be made each vintage, Duck and Liam analyze their fruity concoctions so as to make the best Springflat Shiraz possible. The uniqueness of this wine results from parcels of fruit being sourced from eight other sites across the Heathcote region, stretching from Colbinnabbin to Mia Mia. These vineyards are living in various soil types ranging from the rich 'cambrian' volcanic soils of the north, to the dense, acidic, granite and quartz-laden clays of the south. This allows the Springflat Shiraz to express a rainbow of richness for which the Heathcote region is famous." - Winery
