"Sourced from estate fruit, the "Le Charnay" cuvee is from a specific lieu-dit called "Vignes de Fourchet," that is composed of Jurassic Period Kimmeridgian clay-limestone marl, known locally as "terres blanches." An incredible value - this is a high-quality wine that is a great value-alternative to Sancerre.Menetou-Salon lies directly southwest of Sancerre. Its really RIGHT NEXT to Sancerre - way closer to Sancerre than Quincy, the other commonly known value-alternative to Sancerre (check out map below). The soil here is Jurassic-age Kimmeridgian limestone. With a climate pretty much identical to that of Sancerre, Menetou-Salon can create wines that exhibit the same fresh minerality, as well as the tell-tale characteristics of gunflint, citrus and spicy notes. Also required to be 100% Sauvignon Blanc, the white wines from Menetou-Salon present an incredibly well-priced alternative to its famous neighbor. Jean-Max Roger owns some choice land in Menetou-Salon; their production is from estate fruit located in the commune of Morogues. The “Le Charnay” cuvee, that is currently in-stock, is sourced from a lieu-dit called “Vignes de Fourchet.” The soil in this area is composed of Jurassic Period Kimmeridgian clay-limestone, known locally as “terres blanches.” Jean-Max Roger’s 2014 Menetou Salon Blanc “Le Charnay” represents an incredible value – a high-quality wine that is a great value-alternative to Sancerre or Pouilly Fumé."
