The 2019 Orcia Rosso Saltamacchia opens with an intense mix of crushed sour cherries and wild berries, accentuated by savory herbs. It flows across the palate, silky and nearly salty in character, with mineral-tinged red fruits that slowly saturate. Violet inner florals linger as the 2019 finishes medium in length, lightly structured and pleasantly bitter. The Saltamacchia is a blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot. Nicely done.

Savory, zesty nose with some bitter oranges, iron, stones, cloves and nutmeg. Really juicy and firm but nothing chewy here. Medium body on the palate followed by a focused, savory finish. 90% sangiovese and 10% merlot. Drink now through to 2030.

The nose is sweet yet textured, with aromas of cherry blossom, wild strawberry, raspberry jam and candied citrus peel. On the palate, the cherries, strawberries and raspberries all reappear, and a healthy salinity brings a balancing freshness.

Pale ruby. Plashy sour-cherry and bramble-berry fruit, kicking with energy and crunchy acidity. The tannins are slender but feisty, spiced with cinnamon and cardamom, and the wine has a brisk, uplifting focus. The finish is lavender fragrant, holding a touch of wet terracotta stone, a trace of Aleppo pepper, and is very, very neat. Real character, real harmony. Very genuine, really complete.
