Sweet, ripe black cherries on the nose with violets and dried rose petals. Full-bodied with firm, slightly austere tannins. Yet, it remains fresh and vivid. Turns lightly bitter on the finish with some burnt orange peel. Drink after 2022.

Pretty yet understated notes of strawberry, dried roses, violets, incense and cedar rise up from the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino. It’s a wine that impresses on it’s feminine grace and balance more than power, with soft textures and ripe red berry fruits which slowly evolve into salty minerals with a gentle tug of tannins toward the close. Hints of licorice and inner florals linger through the long and lightly structured finish. The symmetry here is spot-on, and I expect that the 2016 Scopone will gain some flesh and richness over a few years of cellaring.
