The 2015 Scopone Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a wonderful showing in this vintage. It begins with aromatics of black cherries and plums, woven together with freshly cut florals, leather, sweet tobacco and earthy minerals. The full body is well structured and supported by velvety tannins which are nicely integrated and make for a gorgeous texture. It remains focused and balanced all the way through the long, spice-tinged finish. The 2015 can be approached early on, but readers may want to allow this just a few more years in bottle to develop a more refined character.

A fantastic red with loads of ripe fruit and an infusion of toasted oak and wet earth. It’s very young now and needs more time to come together, but very nicely done. Full-bodied with round, creamy tannins and a flavorful finish. Drink after 2022.
