About

Product Description:

"The estate of Castello ColleMassari was founded in 1998 in Montecucco and is nestled in the foothills of Mt. Amiata. Claudio Tipa, owner of the famed Grattamacco estate in Bolgheri and Poggio di Sotto in Montalcino , saw the potential to make great Sangiovese and Vermentino in Montecucco and was on the forefront of establishing Montecucco as a great wine region. While Montecucco lies close to Brunello di Montalcino, Sangiovese from Montecucco has a unique personality to its more widely recognized neighbours. The Tipa family rebuilt the Medieval Castle on the grounds and added to it a modern, state-of-the-art winery. With a gravity-flow cellar that is dedicated to the principles of bio-architecture and biodynamic engineering, the winery is producing organic wines that have gained the attention of the entire world and in 2014 was elected “Winery of the Year” by Gambero Rosso. A wine produced from vineyards at 300 m asl and of varying expositions, where the soil is characterized by fractured sandstone, tufaceous clays and calcareous marl. Vinification in stainless steel vats with temperatures never too high to preserve the best fresh aromatic expression. Ages for ten months 50% in stainless steel and 50% in barrique and tonneaux of second and third passage. Bottle refinement 6 months minimum." -Importer
