This shows lovely depth on the nose with dark licorice, dried fruit, red meat, blood oranges and Indian spices. Full-bodied and intense, but with real linearity carved out by the bright acidity and firm, grainy tannin backbone, which help to delineate the red-fruited core and lead to a long finish. Drink in 2020.

This plot is in the warm southeast, but altitudes of 400-450 metres provide reprieve from the heat. After a short passage in small French oak, the wine spends most of its ageing time in 60 hectolitre oak vats. Appealing aromas of dried cherry, pressed violet and fragrant tea are well defined. The palate is remarkably vibrant, with ample yet finessed tannins and lingering notes of mineral and clove.
